BANN U-14s   29      CARRICK U-14s   15

On a cold sunny Saturday morning, Bann Under 14s entertained their Carrick counterparts in a bruising, high-paced encounter and ran out comfortable winners. Bann’s try scorers were Jamie Carville (2), Kieffer McKnight (2) and Jake Smyth (1), with Dennis Kerr adding two conversions. The match was marred by a horrific leg gash to home hooker Andrew Harris. Everyone connected with the Squad wishes him a very speedy recovery and hopefully he’ll be back playing soon.

Coach Noel Irwin identified a number of positive points in the home team’s display. “Despite provocation from their opponents the lads continued to play rugby, moving the ball quickly at every opportunity,” he commented after the game. “Set pieces were excellent as was the rucking. Tackling improved as the game went on but our defensive line speed needs a bit more work along with our support play in the loose.

“All in all this was a good victory for the Squad in what was our last home league game and it sets us up nicely as we approach the Cup playing part of the season.”
