BANN U-14s   50      LURGAN U-14s   19

Banbridge Under 14s extended their unbeaten to six games with a comprehensive 50-19 victory over neighbours Lurgan in last Saturday’s friendly.

In ideal conditions and despite the absence of a number of key players, the squad played some fantastic running rugby which saw them score eight tries, five of which were converted.

Try scorers were Darren Sloane (2 tries), Jake Smyth (2 tries) and Kieffer McKnight (1 try). Out – half Dennis Kerr added five conversions.  The match was played in a great spirit with both teams committed to moving the ball and playing running rugby.

Bann coach Noel Irwin said that he was particularly please with the team’s rucking, their crisp passing, improved communication, better structured support play with the ball and their dominance at the set piece.

“Some work is still needed defensively, particularly on line speed”, he added. “But against a hard running Lurgan team the lads’ tackling remained strong throughout the duration of the match. This was a good test for the squad with a very busy end to our league campaign coming up“.
