Banbridge RFC Inaugural Girls Blitz
Riffle Park was the venue for the first ever Banbridge Girls Rugby Blitz to take place. It was a chilly but bright dry day, after close inspections by the referees unfortunately it was ruled that the girls could not play contact rugby as the ground had not recovered from the mornings heavy frost.
The girls were disappointed but their enthusiasm shone through and they played a great day of touch rugby.
We welcomed 17 clubs and 250 players throughout Ulster.
The clubs included Ballymena, Newry, Randalstown, Armagh, Cooke, Donaghadee, Portadown, Malone, Lurgan, Carrick, Virginia, Ards, Finnvalley, Enniskillen, Limavady, City of Derry and Ballynahinch.
Thanks to all the Clubs, Players and supporters for joining us on another milestone at our Club. The Banbridge girls turned out in force fielding 6 U12s, 14 U14s and 3 U16s. They were proud to wear their new jerseys sponsored by Club Force, Sports Data Management Team who have recently come on board to work with Banbridge RFC.
With the launch of their kit it brings together the players and shows what a fantastic journey they’ve been on over the last few months. The coaching team praise each and every one of them for the commitment and hard work.
The day finished off by providing warm food for all 300 players and coaches severed up by our dedicated kitchen volunteers. The Maxi Tour team also came out I force to provide burgers, hotdogs and hot drinks to keep the supports warm throughout the day.
This day would not have been possible without the kind sponsorship from local businesses. We would like to thank AJ Butchers, The Rosehip Café & Bakery and Coca Cola HBC.
The day was well managed on the pitch by a number of Ulster Branch Referees and a large group of Banbridge RFC volunteers. We would also like to thank John Mullan, David Douglas and Dave Neill for capturing the events of the day, and the Ulster Branch for providing the St Johns Ambulance who were thankfully not kept too busy.
