U13s reverse loss with good win over Hinch Share
BANBRIDGE U13s 31 Ballynahinch 5October 22, 2011
Bann U-13s, sponsored by The Leader, were determined to follow up last week's away win by reversing their earlier season loss to Ballynahinch. In a strong home performance they played with determination and discipline, concentrating on strong tackling, determined rucking and close support in the loose. Bann's 10-5 half time lead didn't fully reflect their first half endeavours as they had to accept no-try decisions on three occasions during the half due to forward passes or heroic 'Hinch players preventing the grounding of the ball. However in the second half the tiring 'Hinch pack were worn down by repeated pick-and-drives from Dan McBurney, Jack Myles, Alistair McDowell, Charlie Wright and the hard-carrying William Cousins. The 'Hinch backs struggled to advance the ball in the face of effective tackling, with Chris Bennett in particular making a number of strong stops. The outcome was a second half in which Bann's forwards and backs combined to add 21 unanswered points. The large squad turn-out on the day meant that some players had to settle for brief run-ons, but the strong performance meant that team morale at the final whistle was excellent. Tries were scored by Charlie Wright (2), Tom Flanagan, Jack Dolaghan and Troy Pinion, with conversions added by Charlie Jones and John Buller.
