Armagh, Banbridge's opponents in the final, had taken an early lead but Bann pulled things all square before the interval. Simon McKinstry's determination saw him win out in a scramble for a loose ball, scoring just before the half time whistle.

Captain McKinstry added to his tally and gave Bann the lead midway through the second half after receiving the ball at the front of the lineout and powering over to score.

Armagh pressed for a score in the remaining minutes of play and eventually found a gap in the Bann defence1280091796::-::1.jpgscoring in the corner in the last play of normal time.

Extra time ensued where a 'golden try' would secure the cup for the first team to score and it wasn't long in coming.

A long throw found McKinstry at the tail of a lineout, and set him on a forward run.  He found Morrison with a short pop pass and the young outhalf finished neatly to secure the cup for Banbridge.

Banbridge had qualified from their group with a 2-0 win over Ophir and a 1-0 win over English side The Viagra Boys and a bye over Newry, with tries from Sam Boyd, Andy Morrison and Jonny Little.

The semi final pitted Bann against Morton's Stags, playing in Ballynahinch colours and it took a late McKinstry interception to decide this tight affair and set up Banbridge's final with Armagh.

Banbridge's 2nd team competed in the Shield competition for more social sides, recording two draws and a loss in the group stage.  Brian Ferguson scored Bann's try in their 1-1 draw with Newry, while their only other score came in the form of a penalty try awarded in the defeat to Balbriggan after John Woods was tackled high from a quick tap penalty.  Bann's other game ended in a nil all draw against eventual Shield winners Dromore 1sts.

A big thank you to captains Andy Craig and Simon McKinstry for organising their teams and to all the players who took part in what was a great festival of rugby played in the true spirt of the game.
