Bann Youth teams contest two Ravenhill finals Share
While our senior squad are in Limerick preparing for their promotion play-off with Old Crescent, two of our youth teams will be at Ravenhill contesting the finals of the provincial cup competitions. The U-17s take on local rivals Ballynahinch while the U-15s face City of Derry. And with the U-13s having already won the Plate competition at their grade, this could be Bann\'s most successful season ever since youth rugby started at Rifle Park in the mid-90s. The U-17s travelled to the Biarritz area of France on Sunday for their end-of-season tour, planned without the expectation that they would still be involved in local competitions. On Monday they played St-Paul-Les-Dax and yesterday (Tuesday) they took on Corraze Nay. Provided they come through those games without picking up any serious injury they will start as favourites against a ‘Hinch side they have already beaten twice this season en-route to picking up the Ulster Premier League title. Team coaches Tim Honeyford, Brian Cromie and David Neill will recall however that ‘Hinch made their lads battle all the way when the sides met at Rifle Park, and they will need to play at or close to their best if they are to make it a league and cup double. Captained by prop Jonny McCreery, the team has quality throughout. Thomas Carlisle\'s potential at prop forward has been recognised by the Ulster Youth selectors, as has that of scrum-half Josh Coyle who forms a well-settled partnership with his No 10 Macauley Little. Peter Cromie and Ryan Dennison are tenacious flankers and Kacper Kruzycki is a strong mobile No 8. Centre Adam Doherty is the team\'s leading points scorer, through his lethal kicking and the blistering pace that has seen him score several magnificent tries this season. The Bann U-17 team is:- Ryan Graham, Jonny Adams, Adam Doherty, Matthew McDonald, Ben Cross, Macauley Little, Josh Coyle, Thomas Carlisle, Robert Poots, Jonny McCreery, Kyle McConnell, Adam Kelly, Peter Cromie, Ryan Dennison, Kacper Kruzycki. Replacements:- Chris Knox, Jason Lamont, Matthew Lindsay, Kyle Russell, Jason Adamson, Stephen Ruddock, Colin Cardwell, William Baird. The U-15s have also got the better of Saturday\'s opposition on the two occasions they have met this season. Working with a small squad, coaches Alan Harvey and Richard Jennings have worked wonders to see them draw the Premier League play-off with Carrick and then beat the Co Antrim side away in the semi-final of the cup to earn their place in the final. Skipper Matthew Beck has been in superb form all season and he has got great support up front from flanker Adam Copes and No8 David McElroy. Josh Cromie is a lively scrum-half and outside him No 10 Cameron Cromie and centre James Waugh are devastating runners. The U-15s lost the final last season, so they will be going all out to clinch their first-ever success at Ulster Rugby Headquarters. The Bann U-15 team is:- Michael Moore, Keelan McCambridge, James Waugh, Zac Chambers, William Wilson, Cameron Cromie, Josh Cromie, Lee Jackson, Robin Hewitt, Jake Dennison, Thomas McRoberts, Matthew Beck, Adam Copes, Alexander Megaw, David McElroy. Replacements:- Jake Chambers, Andrew Harvey, Matthew Taylor, Benjamin Reid, David Waddell, James Curry. The U-15 final kicks off at 12.15pm with the U-17 game due to start at 13.30pm.
