RAINEY U-14s 7 BANN U-14s 41
Bann’s U-14s recorded another emphatic win to maintain their 100% record in the Ulster Carpets East League, overcoming the challenges presented by appalling overhead weather conditions, a very heavy pitch and a hardworking, tough tackling Rainey side.
Try scorers for the winners were Jack Mullan, Darragh McCann, Euan Jenks, Reece Evans, Emmett Magill, Pearse Magill and James Waddell, with conversions added by Waddell and Pearse Magill.
Coach Noel Irwin said that the squad’s performance reflected the more focused training regime. “I thought the lads put together some impressive periods of play with their handling and movement exceptional,” he said after the game. “The link play between forwards and backs is starting to gel really well.
“However, there is always room for improvement. Our re-starts could be much better, the rucks more efficient and communication, or rather the lack of it, is still a problem. Nevertheless this was a very satisfying win for everyone connected with the squad as we move into the busiest part of the season.
“The Coaches would also like to thank all of the parents and other supporters who made the long trip to Magherafelt. Their vocal support was very welcome.1
