BANN SECONDS 42 LURGAN 14
A bonus point win for Bann Seconds lifted them above rivals Lurgan into fifth place in the Kukri Ulster Conference Division Two.
But they had to withstand a difficult opening quarter during which a strong Lurgan scrum gave the visitors the territorial edge.
With adjustments made the home side began to enjoy enough possession to test the opposition defence and, playing what Coach Colin Bickerstaff called “really good attractive rugby”, they ran in a total of six tries. “The fact the lads are training together is starting to show and bear fruit,” he said. “We lost a couple of guys to the Firsts and I was concerned that might impact on our performance. But it was seamless with the lads coming doing really well.”
Try scorers were Calum Russell, Reuben McCreery, Macauley Little, John Porter and Ross Cartmill. Bickerstaff highlighted fine individual performances from lock Max Lyttle, centre Cartmill and scrum-half Jason Gribbon, who contributed 17 of his team’s points off the tee.
