BANN THIRDS 28 OMAGH THIRDS 0
A third minute try set Bann Thirds up for a bonus point win in this Provincial League Section Two game. Out-half Gareth Hutton kicked Omagh back into their corner after Bann had received the kick-off and prop Robbie Mathers finished off after his pack had driven the lineout close to the line. Hutton slotted home the conversion.
With hooker Ryan Ringland and jumper Matthew Bell combining well to provide quality lineout ball, Bann were able to repeat the dose in the 25thminute, with Mathers claiming his second touchdown to take his side 12-0 ahead.
Philip Morrison’s successful penalty attempt with the last act of the first half took his side three scores clear and that lead was extended in the first minute after the break, thanks to Paul McNally’s pick up and powerhouse run that took him over the line.
A second Morrison penalty gave Bann a 21-0 advantage and Jonny McCreery added the bonus score after driving over from a tap penalty.
Christian Trimble had a very impressive game at prop, acting as the foundation for a solid Bann scrum. McNally seemed to be everywhere on the pitch, William Taylor put in a captain’s performance with his tackling and hard running and Hutton’s tactical kicking kept his side in the right areas of the pitch.
