BANN U-14s 24 CARRICK U-14s 20
Bann Under 14s moved into the last four of the Ulster Cup with an entertaining but nerve-racking 24-20 victory over Carrick at Rifle Park. Daniel Wilson, Aleks Przybylski and Kiefer McKnight grabbed one try apiece and Dennis Kerr made a crucial contribution off the tee, converting all three tries and adding a penalty.
The game was played at a fast past with both teams intent on moving the ball at every opportunity, aided by a referee keen to see the game flow.
Coach Noel Irwin was still disappointed with aspects of the team’s performance. “Rucking, normally a strong point with the Squad, was poor and will need to improve if we are to advance against our semi-final opponents Virginia”, he commented after the game. “Other aspects of our play were good, particularly our support play.
“Thanks to all of the parents and other supporters who gave fantastic vocal encouragement throughout the match – we are all looking forward to next week’s semi-final.”
Bann will have home advantage again this Saturday and will need to be at their best against a strong Virginia outfit. Kick-off is at 11.00am, with the prospect of a cup final appearance at the Kingspan Stadium offering every encouragement to the squad.
