LURGAN U-14s 0 BANN U-14s 51
On a dank, rainy, overcast morning, Bann Under 14s travelled the short distance to Pollock Park, Lurgan to take on their Lurgan counterparts in their second friendly meeting of the season.
They came away with a 51-0 victory, having played some sparkling running rugby in what were at times atrocious conditions. For the record, Bann’s try scorers were Jamie Carville (3) and Darren Sloane (2) with one apiece from Kiefer McKnight, Alan Woods, Isaac Finch and Jake Smyth. Dennis Kerr added three conversions.
Bann played the game at a quick tempo throughout, which, added to superior handling skills in the prevailing conditions and a greater spacial awareness than their opponents, laid the foundations for this excellent victory. Particularly pleasing for Coach Noel Irwin was the movement with ball in hands, lineout play, rucking, defensive line speed and tackling.
“Tougher challenges undoubtedly lie ahead as our Cup adventure continues”, said the Coach reflecting on the win. “But if the Squad can maintain the same match tempo, allied to their naturally good handing skills and hard work around the breakdown, then they are capable of giving any Under 14 Squad in the Province a decent game.
Preparation begins on Monday night for the round of 16 Cup trip to Ophir on St Patrick’s Day. All players are asked to make every effort to turn out. “
