CARRICK U-14s 5 BANN U-14s 10
Bann’s U-14 squad secured a memorable 10-5 victory against league leaders Carrick at the Woodlands Grounds last Saturday and in the process extended their unbeaten run to five games.
This was the best performance produced by the squad this season and as a result, they lie in second place in the league with a realistic opportunity of topping the table at the end of the season.
This was the first time Carrick had lost at home since March last year. Bann had a try in each half, with Jamie Carville and Darren Sloane dotting down.
Coach Noel Irwin was full of praise for his young players’ efforts. “There were vast improvements in our set piece play with the set scrum dominant and the line out functioning at its best,” he commented after the game. “The most pleasing aspects of the performance were at the breakdown, first up tackling and ball retention. Movement with the ball was sharp and the team defended well as a unit. It was good to see players exuding confidence and skill with and without the ball.
“As always there is room for improvement particularly line passing, responding with a greater alacrity as a game unfolds, more clinical decision-making and ensuring we retain our focus for the full match. We’ll work on these before next week’s game at Ballynahinch.”
