LISBURN U-14s 0 BANN U-14s 64
On a cold, crisp late autumnal morning, Bann’s Under 14s travelled the short distance to Lisburn and came away with a 64-0 victory in the second of a series of friendlies. The try scorers were Jamie Carville (4), Darren Sloane (3), Kieffer McKnight (2) and Jake Smyth (1) with Dennis Kerr converting seven of his ten attempts at goal.
While the scoreline suggests an easy and comprehensive victory, Bann Coach Noel Irwin said that it was far from a complete performance. “Our Lisburn counterparts kept us honest throughout the game and there are still have a number of things to work on,” he said reflecting on the win. “In particular a number of players still think that tackling is someone else’s responsibility and the ball was spilled in contact a number of times because of poor technique. However, the rucking continues to improve, movement with and without the ball was as good as it’s been since the start of the season and the defensive patterns and line speed are more robust.”
Noel thanked those members of Squad who turned out and the parents and other family relatives who gave great vocal support throughout the match. “I don’t normally assign a man of the match award but I will do this week and give it to our out-half Dennis Kerr. He had a superb game with ball in hand, coupled with a judicious kicking game and great cover defence as needed.”
