It is a massive honour and privilege to captain the 1st XV for the 2018/19 season.
Looking ahead to the incoming season and my first season as captain it’s going to be a massive challenge to better what has been achieved over the last number of seasons. Although in saying that I wouldn’t have accepted the role as captain if I didn’t believe this was achievable. Last season we came so close to taking the club to the top tier.
We have retained the majority of our playing squad from last year as well as adding some exciting young talent to the group which can only bode well and add further quality to our exciting squad. As a group we all know how it felt to come so close to history. We now can’t wait for the season to get going and once again put ourselves in a position to create another bit of history.
It has been massively encouraging to see such large numbers at training for not only the 1st and 2nd but 3s 4s and 5s also. If the commitment continues that has been shown in the early stages it should set us up for another successful season throughout the club.
I would like to thank all the coaches, committee members and volunteers that put in so much work and effort throughout the year. Without everyone we wouldn’t have such a successful and great club. I would also like to give particular thanks to the ladies committee for their never ending work all season. Every player and member massively appreciates all your efforts. Finally a special mention to the members that support all teams hundreds of miles up and down the country week in week out. We hope to give you all plenty to celebrate this coming season.
To finish I would like to welcome all our visiting teams and supporters to Rifle Park. Good luck with the rest of your seasons and please don’t leave without benefiting from our hospitality and warm welcome in the club house after the game.
